Online supervision… is it the real deal?

Moving to online supervision has been a significant change in 2020. Yes its true that there is nothing like meeting with someone face-to-face! In fact a supervisory session by its very nature needs that level of focus and undivided attention to allow us to be able to reflect deeply. Yes… but… 2020 has meant that we have had to rethink this. Public health restrictions have changed so much of our every day living and things we thought neither possible or desirable are now common place. Words like ‘Zoom’ and ‘Teams’ have entered our everyday language much like ‘selfie’ and ‘dot com’ have in recent years. It seems that everyone is zooming now!

So, what about professional supervision? Professional consultations have evolved in recent months to embrace online platforms. For professional supervision it can take a little time to get used to if you are accustomed to a private in-person supervisory session in an office setting. However, if you are new to supervision or have just never got around to availing of it, then online supervision has opened up new possibilities and opportunities.

Online supervision and support is still ‘supervision and support’! It is important to say that from our perspective that when we meet via Zoom or Skype that we do so with as much attention and presence as we do when you come for an in-person supervisory session. The quality of presence is focussed, reflective and attentive to your needs and wellbeing.

After all supervision is supervision and now physical distance is no obstacle! With our online supervision opportunities we offer you an opportunity to step aside for an hour to share how work or caring is going for you, to hear your challenges, your joys, your concerns, your questions and to hold a respectful, confidential, reflective and affirming space for you to maintain joy, focus and wellbeing in your work.
